Tribute to Peter Green
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Green, a visionary investor and a steadfast supporter of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Peter’s commitment to Bermuda and his belief in its potential were evident in his many contributions to our community.
Peter Green, originally from Manchester, England, moved to Bermuda after marrying Mary Jean Mitchell. Together, they made their home on Marshall’s Island in Hamilton Harbour. Following Mary Jean’s death from breast cancer in 1990, Peter and his family became key supporters of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Their generosity has been instrumental in advancing cancer care on the island.
The Green family’s support included a major fundraising campaign in 2010, which significantly upgraded our equipment and patient support services. In 2012, we dedicated the Mary Jean Mitchell Green Ultrasound Suite in her honor. Their contributions were also crucial in establishing our $10 million radiation therapy program in 2017, where the Green family name is proudly displayed in the reception area.
Peter’s philanthropic efforts extended beyond our Centre. The Green Family Scholarship, established in 2007, has enabled over 175 Bermudian students to pursue higher education. His support for Saltus Grammar School and Prospect College in Jamaica further exemplifies his dedication to education and community development.
Peter’s legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and unwavering support for cancer care and education. His impact on Bermuda will be felt for generations to come. We are profoundly grateful for his contributions and will continue to honor his memory through our work.
Thank you, Peter, for your remarkable support and for believing in our mission to build healthier lives free of cancer and disease.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre Team
