Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre Medical Director & Newly Announced CEO Featured in Prestigious Global Publication

Dr. Chris Fosker, our medical director and recently announced CEO has been chosen for inclusion in the journal ‘Cancer Control 2024: Cancer Care in Emerging Health Systems.’

An article by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s medical director has been chosen for inclusion in a prestigious journal on cancer care, Cancer Control 2024: Cancer Care in Emerging Health Systems. This publication is produced by Global Health Dynamics, an organisation that collaborates with global partners to provide vital information and influence for the global health community.

The article by Dr Fosker, whose appointment as CEO was announced last month, highlights the Centre’s significant contributions to cancer care. The thought-provoking piece compares the lack of action on climate change with the lack of action on cancer care, resonating deeply with many.

“In Bermuda, we have faced challenges such as a lack of facilities, an inadequate workforce, and no comprehensive plan” states Fosker. “However, through proactive charity efforts, generous donations, and partnerships with leading institutions like Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center in Boston, we have made remarkable strides”.

Since 2016, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre has introduced radiation therapy, tripled its cancer workforce, and published its first National Cancer Control Plan. In 2016, 70 patients travelled to the United States for radiotherapy. Last year, we treated over 200 patients right here in Bermuda.

“Dr Fosker’s ’s leadership and innovative approach has been instrumental in these achievements. The Centre’s work emphasises the need for both big and small changes to bring about global improvements in cancer care. By embracing innovative changemakers and fresh strategies, we can make a significant impact” states Deborah Titterton Narraway, Chief Marketing & Fundraising Officer

Titterton Narraway continues “We are proud to have our Designate CEO & Medical Director recognised alongside other notable leaders such as Rt Hon Patricia Scotland, PC, KC, Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Professor Diana Sarfati, Director-General of Health, New Zealand, and Miriam Mutebi, President of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC)”.

“Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is committed to being a leader in cancer care, not only in Bermuda but worldwide. We encourage everyone to read this important publication and become more aware of the critical issues surrounding cancer care.”
