Hamilton, Bermuda, February 26, 2018 – Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre announced today that Dr. Chris Fosker, Clinical Director and Radiation Oncologist at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will present at the 3 day Global Cancer Control conference being held at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at the University Health Network and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, Canada. The “Global Cancer Control: Creating the Future” conference will focus on innovation and next generation of approaches to global cancer control.
Dr Fosker will be one of three presenting an "in cafe session" on the Challenges of Cancer Control in Small Island Nations. Fosker will focus on the collaborative business model that brought radiation therapy to Bermuda which can benefit approximately 200 local cancer patients each year. Dr Fosker was the clinical lead in the project that brought radiation therapy to Bermuda; this service has now been in operation since May 23, 2017. Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre has a clinical affiliation with Dana-Farber/ Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center for Radiation Therapy. As a not-for-profit organization, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre seeks to provide equal access to all their clinical services including radiation therapy and currently subsidises cost not covered by health insurance.
This conference boast a faculty of over 75 specialists who will map the current state and explore future potential for improved cancer control with a focus on cancer care equity, next-generation strategies and capitalisation on millennial values. Keynote addresses by global leaders, workshops, panel discussions, rapid-fire posters, and “in-café” sessions are designed to engage cancer, global health, technology, and education experts as well as political and civil society leaders to identify opportunities for innovation and collaboration to accelerate the progress against cancer globally and to place a focus on cancer control firmly on the global development agenda.
Dr Fosker is the Radiation Therapy Director and Radiation Oncologist at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in Bermuda, a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with Bermuda Hospitals Board, an affiliate of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Consultant at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr Fosker obtained his medical degree from the University of Leeds in the UK in 2003, and shortly after that went on to become a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (2006) and Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in the UK (2011). In 2012, he completed a Clinical Fellowship at the University of Toronto and was subsequently awarded the R.S. Bush Award for Academic Excellence as a Radiation Oncology Fellow.
