Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry Screening for early detection of osteoporosis is a service which has been available at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre since May 2000.

In April 2009 the centre purchased a new bone densitometry unit.

Bone density testing is used to assess the strength of the bones and the probability of a fracture in persons at risk for osteoporosis. Women are four times more likely to develop osteoporosis than men. The test, referred to as bone densitometry or bone mineral density scan (BMD), is a simple, noninvasive procedure that takes just minutes. Screening recommendations are for women to have a baseline test at the age of menopause.

Doctor referrals are required for appointments. Speak with your physician about making an appointment at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.
