A period of reflection at next month’s Relay For Life will be sponsored by Sun Life International.
The company is supporting the Luminaria ceremony, which will be held at 9pm on May 10, at the National Sports Centre’s North Field, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre said.
“This meaningful ceremony, held annually during Relay, serves as a poignant tribute of remembrance and hope for all those affected by cancer,” the charity explained.
The centre added: “As darkness falls on the field, attendees will share a deeply emotional moment as each luminaria is illuminated around the track, symbolising lives touched by cancer.”
The centre said the ceremony signifies “a time of unity and reflection as survivors, participants, and supporters walk the track, enveloped in silence and surrounded by messages of love and hope”.
Luminaria bags can be bought for a minimum donation of $10 at bermudarelay.bm, the BCHC, or from participating teams.
The charity said bags can be decorated and customised with personal messages.
Registered teams can also use Luminaria bags as fundraising tools.
Bags must be returned to centre or the venue by 5pm on May 8, or between 10am and 8pm on May 10.
BCHC said: “Your purchase contributes to the Luminaria ceremony and supports Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre's vital mission to build healthier lives free of cancer and disease.
“With 97 per cent of funds raised going directly to prevention education programmes and the Equal Access Fund, your generosity makes a tangible difference in our community.”
Relay for Life will run from May 10 to 11.
